Salsa Dance

Would you like to learn to dance Salsa and/or improve your skills??
If so, what elements as a beginner, intermediate and advanced dancer would you like to learn and/or improve? What would your goals be as a salsa dancer? What are your troubles? I'd also like to hear a few of your social dance experiences - anything you want to share would really help me brainstorm for an upcoming Academy project.... Thx in advance
and have a great weekend!
I'd learn mambo instead if I had the time for it. I dance salsa occasionally at social events. As a follower, I don't feel the necessity to learn the patterns unless I'm aiming to perform. I find it frustrating to dance salsa at this point because many people seem to concentrate on patters and what they really like is to see what new move of theirs can they pull off on me. Yeah, as a trained Latin dancer, I can follow a lot of unexpected tricks as long as they are lead on time but then eventually I feel it's becoming more of an exercise than a dance. Musicality is sacrificed to patterns. Meanwhile salsa has one of the most intricate rhythms of all social dances. I like to be able to move to those rhythms, even if the steps are kept simple. And moving I don't mean just putting my feet where they supposed to go but moving the whole body. Being able to move like that consists of two parts. One is my own training and the other is my partner's. See if your partner has poor sence of music he'll pull you off your feet at the wrong time.
Like I said I'd really rather learn Mambo. At least in my area, despite of all these salsa congresses held nearby, salsa tends to be a slopy version of mambo danced on 1.
