Did your strapless gown stay up the whole night?
I really want to wear a strapless gown, but I heard for women that are bustier, its hard to keep the gown up the whole nite. Im a 34D, do you think if I get it fitted right, will it stay up the whole nite, or will it drop and and have to be pulling it up all the time?
Also, did you wear a bra under your strapless gown? Or the boning was enough to hold it up, and you went braless?
if you used a bra, what kind worked best?
You can definitely wear a strapless gown and have it stay up all night. First things first, you WILL need a good strapless bra, the kind that goes all the way down to your waist or hips. If you try to wear a normal bandeau style strapless bra, your boobs will overpower the bra and push it down, and you'll still feel like you need to tug on it all night. A longline bra will support the girls from your waist/hips. Then when you have your dress, get it fitted properly. Contrary to popular belief, your chest is NOT what holds up a strapless dress, your waist and hips do, so thats where you want to make sure it fits well. It should be comfortably snug. When you're with the seamstress, pull the dress up to where you want it to stay, and just hold it there (so it doesnt slip while she's pinning). Then she can easily grap the extra fabric at the sides seams and pin it. When you let go, it should feel secure. (And dont forget to wear that good bra at your fittings!)

Oh, and one more thought. (sorry, im a huge bra advocate haha) I have seen larger women, or women with large chests, choose not to wear a bra with the dress. I always recommend a good bra if you need the support or need stuff sucked in, because bras are designed and constructed specificly to do so. Generally dresses are not. While they do have boning in them, the boning is there partially to hold the dress up and partially to hold the fabric taught, so the outside of the bodice has a nice smooth appearance. They're not designed with the intent to suck things in, so if sucking in is needed, its nice to have the bra create that foundation. That way there isnt so much stress put on the dress/seams/zipper. Also if you purchase a gown with some weight to it, a longline bra can help support the weight of the dress all day. Compare it to body-builders and construction workers who wear those bands around their waist to help support their spines while carrying heavy things.
