How can I clean burnt food out of my all-clad stainless steel pan?
My husband and I just got some all-clad pots and pans. For some reason, every time we cook in the pan, we keep burning whatever it is we make, and there is this big black mark in the bottom of the pan.
How can we get rid of this? It seems no matter how much scrubbing we do it is still there!
Get some Barkeeper's Friend. It's a powdered cleanser that does wonders on metal! It's cheap and you can get it in a lot of grocery and discount stores. It's similar to scouring powder but doesn't scratch. Dampen the pan, give it a good generous sprinkle of the Barkeeper's and let it soak for at least 15 minutes, more won't hurt. Then take a sponge with one of those nylon scrubber pads and give it a good scrub. If the food is really burned on, it might take a couple soakings with the Barkeeper's to get it all off. And a little elbow grease.
I wouldn't use Brillo or SOS pads; they scratch and leave marks in the stainless. I have all stainless steel cookware and I don't use anything but the Barkeeper's on them.
And try turning down your heat once the pan is hot; that's why you're burning things. It takes stainless a little while to heat up but once it's hot, it holds the heat more than other pans. A spray of non-stick cooking spray in the bottom makes them easier to clean also.
